I don't think it's the wrong one! I'd just like to tell everyone that your projects are really beautiful. I don't have the patience to finish any of my work (and yet I always get inspired when I see good work like you guys' =]). I'm on legwarmers now, need them for ballet!, but don't think I'll finish. Anyway all I want to say is, I think you all are amazing and I love coming on here just to look at all your photos
Is anyone familiar with this term, and is it just another way of saying Purl?

Thanks for any help.

Does anyone have a pattern for knitting socks, toes first? I saw someone knitting and she was from the UK. She started at the toes and was working her way up. She told me that she has made so many that except for the number of stitches that she casts on, she can do everything by eye. And the product was amazing.

I was recently on a plane from Palm Beach Florida and sat near a women knitting socks from the toes up. She was using dpn and didn't even need a pattern. The socks were coming out great. All of the patterns that I have found for socks start at the top and work your way to the toes. Does anyone have instructions knitting the toes first? Thanks for any help.

I thought a lot about your dilemma - aka which book to buy. Well, over the years I have purchased, been given, found, etc. about four shelves of knitting books - Vogue Knitting among them. I love them all, have gotten this tip from here - that tip from there. But my greatest resource has been the internet. I needed to find out about provisional casting on - the internet, entrelac - the net - how to have an elastic bind off (use a size or two bigger needle to bind-off) - I ran across that on Knitting Daily. Just about everything you might need to find out about is there (here).

Back to Vogue Knitting - I enjoy having it on my shelves. I have found stitches I like, techinques I didn't know about, and tips galore. It's good to have a hard copy to curl up with. In times of need however - the internet outshines all.

Sincerely,
Susan

Oh - p.s. - with a good library take the time to preview any book you may want to buy. - of course - you knew that!

I know at my nearest Michaels, the bamboo yarns are made by Bernat. I love bamboo yarns too, but they are so expensive, and the skeins are so small...

I'm having the same question about kids socks -- I want to knit my preschoolers some thick warm socks for running around the house in, but I'm worried about slipping on our wooden floors.

I've thought about using that foamy rubbery paint that you can buy at craft stores for decorating t-shirts -- I thought I could write each kid's name on the bottom of each sock with it. (For grownup slippers you could just do a pattern of lines or dots) They'd like the fact that it's personalized and hopefully it will help make it nonslip. My only question is, will this type of t-shirt paint stick to knitted socks through many washings?

Anybody have any thoughts on this idea?

For those folks who have knit slippers, do you put anything on the bottom to make them more durable and less slippery?

I'm afraid that if I don't have anything on the bottom, I'll wear through them in no time. Also, I'm afraid they might be a bit slippery on the floor. The slippers I made are a booty style using Light and Lofty yarn.
Hi there. Sorry to hear about your sock. I haven't knit socks myself but on another forum (I think it was about.com:knitting) I've read comments about hand-knit socks developing holes when they weren't worn with slippers/shoes. It seems this is to be expected though I don't recall how long the socks lasted when worn this way.

Please excuse me if my comment isn't relevant. I use Patons classic wool a lot myself and am very fond of it. Odd that it would let you down.

Hi. You might want to consider Patons Canadiana. It's 100% acrylic but it's good quality. I've only used it for craft projects but I've seen it recommended for garments on another knitting forum. It comes in great children's colours like school bus yellow. Here's a link:

Hello,

I'm a member of several other yarn message boards and new to this one but I wanted to spread the word on a huge eBay yarn auction that is going on.

This the second time this seller has posted a lot from what they say to be inventory a former brick and mortar store in the Chicago area. The last auction was fantasitc and everyone got some great deals so I thought I would share it here. This auction has some very nice fibers including bamboo, alpaca and more and everything starts at only $1.00. They are going to be adding books and patterns as well either today or tomorrow.

I purchased last time and got a great deal, the shipping was reasonable because they combine and it arrived quickly. The seller has 100% positive feedback and appears to have sold a fair amount of yarn.

If you're interested the link is: http://tinyurl.com/yehxc7a

(It's been shortened to make it easier to copy), I checked it, it's good. Good luck to everyone who bids!
