I also have knit while sitting with my mother for 3 weeks in an out of town hospital, I have knit as a patient on the maternity ward and much more recently while sitting through weekends of dance competitions that my daughter was involved in. I knit in hotels, while visiting friends, on the train, on hot vacations and by the pool. I taking knitting everywhere but unfortunately I can't knit in a moving car which is a shame because I live 6 hrs away from our largest city that we travel to several times a year. I hate that I am missing out on all that potential knitting time. Nancy

I've taken my knitting to my daughter's swim class. I sit and knit on a towel in the bathroom while my two babies splash in the bathtub.

When my children were little I used top take my knitting almost everywhere with me. I took it to the eye-clinic at the hospital because that was always a two to three hour job. I took it on holiday with me. I even used to take it to bingo when I went with my sister. She played on the slot machines during the half hour break and I did my knitting. I took it to badminton and did it in between games and to the swimming pool when I wasn't going in the water. I guess it was a permanent fixture at one time. Not so much nowadays as it can't get a look in for some book or other. Reading is my main passion now but I still get time to knit of course.

I can't go anywhere without taking my knitting. I even take it on cruises when I go. Ya just never know when you are going to have some quiet time and I can't just sit still. While my parents were alive and in an out of hospitals I made 3 afgahans during the "sitting" time. It keeps me sane!!!

Post subject: To all the people out there who KIP - "Knit in Public&q
PostPosted: Fri Sep 04, 2009 10:45 pm Reply with quote

I like to KIP while standing in line at the bank. I have also enjoyed KIPping on the Amtrak train and on Delta Air Lines. Yeah! I know, they don't allow knitting needles on planes any more. But, back in 1997 I was flying with my son from Orange County John Wayne Airport to Atlanta, Georgie to attend the World Series between the Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees.

I was just finishing a sparkly white skating outfit trimmed in bright metallic blue. The blue headband was already completed and also the two white skates. People gave me strange looks while I was KIPping, because they couldn't figure out what I was doing. Tiny needles and a ball of sparkly white yarn all bunched together - - - ?

I finally bound off the last stitch. Immediately sewed the seams and reached in my duffle (knitting) bag for a Barbie doll. After she was completely dressed and they saw the full, full skating skirt trimmed in the shiny blue, with white panties under the skirt, white skates, and the blue headband - they broke out in smiles - she's knitting!

The cabin attendant strolled by and asked if she could take the doll up to the pilot because his 8 year old daughter loved her Barbies. He offered to buy the outfit, I said yes, and even put everything in a clear plastic bag for him.

This is my favorite KIP story - I have told it over and over.

Post subject: By the swimming pool
PostPosted: Mon Sep 07, 2009 12:13 pm Reply with quote

Last summer I had to finish a couple of scarves so I sat under the summer sun, by the swimming pool, knitting away.

I am going on vacation tomorrow, and was planning to take my knitting with me onto the plane...thank goodness I I read this forum! Knitting needles are not allowed on the plane anymore? It was the only craft I can think of to bring, because it doesn't require scissors or blades.

Sad

when my mom was in the hospital I took it along.
I was making slippers or snuggle mats at the time.
Before I left I had made a few slippers and gave them to the nurses.

While waiting in a doctors office. good place to put your mind and knit.

I usually knit in the bathtub or at work. My job is night shift, so sometimes there are long lulls of no people and I can work on it then ^_^ I normally only take my crocheting on road trips otherwise.

I have a nice project bag that always has a pair of socks in the making in it. It goes in my back pack and my back pack goes with me whenever I leave the house. I knit on the bus when taking my granddaughter to and from school. I knit at Starbucks and Borders when I meet my knitting buddies for coffee in the morning. I knit in the car on long trips. I knit at the doctor's office, at the movies, at the mall waiting till it's time to go in the theater. In short, I knit whenever and wherever I have a few minutes to sit down and relax.

It's amazing how all those little bits of time add up and a pair of socks is the reward!

I have a knitted WIP in my purse at all times, doctors office visits, friends and family houses, the park, of course when riding in the car. Chick-fil-a, LYS. Im not embarrassed to pop it out....if it bothers you then you can look the other way. lol

I recently decided to knit scarves for a part of my family I had grown out of touch with over the years.

I am in California and they are back east in the snow.

There are 4 kids and 6 adults and I am trying to knit every one of them a simple but beautiful scarf before the March winds blow into NY.

So, I take my knitting everywhere, and I am at home knitting constantly.

I like to sit in the local Starbucks and knit as well.

I have 5 finished so far!
